Portfolio tracker vs crypto tax software

A balance screen and a tax report answer different questions. Build a checklist for each.

Name the job before the tool

For monitoring, you may want a consolidated view of accounts, holdings and positions. For tax preparation, you need a history that supports the required calculations and report. CoinStats presents portfolio tracking; CoinTracking, Koinly and CoinLedger also describe tax-related functions. Their presence in this directory is not a claim that they all produce identical outputs.

Build a coverage inventory

List accounts, wallets, networks, activity types and relevant years. For a tracking task, ask which current positions will appear. For a reporting task, ask how complete historical data will enter the system and how you can trace it back to original records. Check each source’s current integration instructions before linking an account.

Check the ambiguous records

Transfers, incomplete acquisition history and overlapping imports are useful items to investigate during an evaluation. The directory has not run these tests for you. Keep the original exports and notes so that adjustments made in software remain explainable. A matching balance is one check, not proof that every taxable event has been classified appropriately.

Review the exported deliverable

Inspect sample reports and confirm the current export terms, transaction allowance and jurisdiction-specific requirements. A supported-country count is not a personal tax determination. If you file in Israel, establish the exact local requirement with a qualified professional; do not assume that a prominently advertised foreign tax form is an equivalent.
